The flight experience will last 6 hours, from launch to landing. Spaceship Neptune will ascend for two hours to over three times higher than a commercial airliner, until it reaches its maximum apogee of 100,000 ft, (30 km). Once there, Spaceship Neptune will float on the atmosphere like an ice cube floats on the top of water, allowing you to soak in the sunrise as it slowly rises over the curved limb of Earth, scattering rainbow colors of light across the planet and illuminating the thin, bright blue line of our atmosphere. Two more hours will pass, when the Explorers and Pilot on board prepare to leave space to return to Earth gently descending under the SpaceBalloon, and two hours later splashes down in the ocean, where a ship retrieves the capsule, SpaceBalloon and Explorers.
Spaceship Neptune will begin its ascent while the sky is still dark, and the stars will be visible like you’ve never before seen them. As Spaceship Neptune glides along at 100,000 ft (roughly 30 km), the sun will slowly rise over the curved limb of Earth, scattering rainbow colors of light across the planet and illuminating the thin, bright blue line of our atmosphere. And the sky remains black, completely inky black. This view of Earth, in the void of space, has transfixed astronauts since the dawn of the space age.
Yes, Wi-Fi is available. There will be a complete digital experience offered and we look forward to sharing this with you as we finalize our full Explorer‘s journey.
Yes, there will most certainly be cameras capturing footage of your flight experience. It may perhaps be one of the most filmed experiences of your life.
Yes, there is a bathroom onboard for all our space tourists, and it will officially be the most exclusive “loo” at 100, 000 ft (30 km) in the sky!
Yes, Spaceship Neptune will have a bar, as every self-respecting spaceship must have for its space tourists.
Post flight there will be an incredible celebration as you are reunited with your loved ones. Personalized experiences post-flight will be crafted depending upon the Explorers desires. Long term, there will be continuing community gatherings, in person and virtual, where you will have the ability to share your experience. You will forever be a part of the Space Perspective Explorer community!
There will be no special training required, making this the most accessible space flight experience available in the marketplace. Your Explorer journey will be inclusive of various pre-flight programs to help fully immerse yourself in this experience. These programs will cover everything from what you will see during your flight, to what is happening outside of the capsule during the ascent and descent. There will also be a flight safety overview, that will cover elements such as capsule ingress and egress, as well as a walkthrough and familiarization of Spaceship Neptune.
A flight on Spaceship Neptune is as effortless as boarding a commercial aircraft. The experience is designed such that if you are medically fit to board an airplane, then you are well-suited this journey. There may be special and individual circumstances where one may need to obtain a physician’s approval. The purpose of any future medical release will be to verify that you are in good health or that your personal physician has determined that any existing medical condition(s) will not adversely affect your participation in the Space Perspective experience.
The capsule is designed to comfortably sit 8 Explorers + 1 Space Perspective Pilot. Currently there is no individual weight limit for passengers.
The SpaceBalloon that will fly you in Spaceship Neptune is 18,000,000 cubic feet (509,703 cubic meters) in volume when fully expanded. This means if a football stadium could fly, it would be able to float around inside the SpaceBalloon once fully inflated at 100,000 ft (30 km). When Spaceship Neptune is standing ready for launch, it is over 700 ft (0.21 km) tall. This is taller than the Vehicle Assembly Building on Kennedy Space Center where Apollo’s Saturn V rockets were erected, taller than the Space Needle in Seattle, significantly taller than the Washington Monument on the National Mall in D.C., and not quite as tall as the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
